Center for Nursing Excellence
The Center for Nursing Excellence is a nursing skills and patient simulation lab operated through a collaborative partnership by Meriter Hospital, Edgewood College and St. Mary’s Hospital. As a regional education resource, the Center features four patient simulation mannequins – adult, birthing mother, pediatric and infant models that provide hands-on training in a wide variety of patient care scenarios. In 2012, more than 1,700 students and current providers received training at the Center.
Patient safety, outcomes and satisfaction are dependent on the availability and competence of health care professionals. With an increasing demand for services from an aging population, the region will soon be facing a shortage of care providers. The Center for Nursing Excellence is one strategy in place to educate and retain a healthy workforce.
This year, funds raised for the Center will help purchase a new 3G Simulation Mannequin, which will expand training opportunities for students and care teams throughout South Central Wisconsin.
